ACS officer suspended for allegedly making objectionable comments against CJI Gogoi
In a bizarre development, a senior Assam Civil Service Officer (ACS) has been suspended, allegedly, for making derogatory comments against Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi.

CJI Gogoi had come to his home state on October 17 last week on the occasion of Durga Puja. Later, he moved to offer prayer at Shakti Pith Kamakhya in Guwahati. As per the protocol the Union Home Ministry had earlier directed the state government to provide adequate security to the CJI. Following the direction the state government had decided to honour the CJI with 'Guard of Honour' at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Borjhar, Guwahati where the CJI was scheduled to land.

Accordingly, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration assigned Additional Deputy Commissioner Prashanta Kumar Kathkatia the supervising duty of the procedure. Amidst mammoth security arrangement at the airport the government had honoured the CJI. But surprisingly, the supervising officer had, allegedly, made some objectionable comments on the CJI, which came into light after a video was uploaded in social media.

The video has created widespread shock and resentment across the state. Many social media users started to demand action against the officer. Amidst mounting pressure the state government suspended the ACS officer.

On the other hand, Guwahati Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) BL Meena was placed under suspension for his alleged dereliction of duty while the CJI visited the Kamakhya Temple. The CJI had, reportedly, expressed dissatisfaction over the security arrangement at the temple during his visit. This has, also, created widespread anger and raised eyebrows of many. BJP president Amit Shah also visited the temple on the same day.

Justice Ranjan Gogoi came to Assam for the first time after taking oath of the CJI on October 3 this year. He has been the first CJI from the Northeast. Son of former Assam chief minister late Keshab Chandra Gogoi, CJI Gogoi, is an alumnus of the Delhi University. After returning to his home state he did legal practice in the Guwahati High Court before receiving appointment as a permanent judge of the same High Court. Later he was transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court in 2012 while he was the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
