Activists appeal AP govt to look into suicides committed in the name of separation of the state
Expressing serious concerns, Dr. S. Jeevananda Reddy, Convenor, Forum for a Sustainable Environment, has said that every other day young boys and girls from the weaker sections of the society are committing 'so called' suicides in the name of separation of the state. He deplored that some political parties are trying to draw political mileage by taking bodies around in the form of processions.
Unfortunately, he said that in these incidents no political leader or his or her families are involved. In a letter to the Chairperson of
Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission Sri Nisar Ahmed Kukru, Mr. Reddy felt that the way things are happening looks suspicious.
He recalled that some time back a national English daily did some survey and expressed that majority of them have nothing to do with separate state movement. However, he said after that nobody attempted to look into this phenomenon.
Unfortunately, neither the government nor the political parties that are using such “so called” suicides for their political growth have done little to stop such incidents except quoting them on every occasion “so many committed suicides”, he added.
He urged the AP State Human Rights Commission for an urgent action on this issue, namely (1) to stop in future such suicides; and (2) punish people/ groups if any involved in creating such incidents “so called” suicides.
