Actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar passes away
Bollywood actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar, who was being treated for a lung infection at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, passed away on Monday. He was undergoing treatment for about two weeks at the hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

64-year old Amrapurkar was well known for his performances in Marathi and Hindi films through the 1980s and '90s. He was known for playing villainous roles and was equally appreciated for his comedy roles. 

He was nominated for the Filmfare Award for his negative roles twice- for Kaal Chakra in 1988, and for Ishq in 1998. But he got his first filmfare award for his film Sadak, the award was given for Best Actor in a Negative Role.

Born and brought up in a Maharashtrian Brahmin family, Sadashiv Amrapurkar was fondly called Tatya by his family and close friends. He began acting in school and was active in local theatre while he was studying for his Masters degree in History from the University of Pune, he was already pursuing his passion in theatre for which he won a number of prestigious awards.

Amrapurkar, was also featured in small roles in films such as Purana Mandir, Nasoor, Muddat, Veeru Dada, Jawani, and Farishtay. In 1987, he played the villain in the blockbuster film Hukumat, starring Dharmendra with whom he forged a successful partnership in several films.

After playing the roles of villein he gradually shifted to shifted to comic and supporting roles in films such as Aankhen, Ishq, Coolie No. 1, Gupt: The Hidden Truth and Aunty No. 1 and was last seen on the big screen in 2012 film Bombay Talkies.

From PM Narendra Modi to superstar Amitabh Bachchan to several other celebs and fans of Amrapurkar took to Twitter to express shock and condolence on the death of versatile actor.

We will remember Sadashiv Amrapurkar as a versatile actor, popular across generations. RIP. My deepest condolences to his family.
