Actor Shiney Ahuja gets bail in rape case
The Mumbai HC granted bail to the actor Shiney Ahuja in Thursday, on surety of Rs 50,000 and the assurance that he will stay out of Mumbai in future. He cannot leave the country and he will have to deposit his passport to the investigating officer.
AFTER PASSING three months in judicial custody for allegedly raping his maid, Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja was granted bail by the Bombay High Court on Thursday (October 1). The high court has granted bail to the actor on surety of Rs 50,000 and the assurance that he will stay out of Mumbai in future. As per the guidelines of the High Court, Shiney Ahuja cannot leave the country and he will have to deposit his passport to the investigating officer.

Known for films like ‘Hazaaron Khwahishen Aisi’, ‘Gangster’ and ‘Bhool Bhullaiya’, Shiney Ahuja was chargesheeted in June for allegedly raping his 20-year-old maid servant. Ahuja was in judicial custody since June 15, 2009. After the incidence, Ahuja apologised for his mistake before the Police. However, the actor’s wife denied the charges. Shiney’s lawyer had earlier argued that evidence only indicated a consensual intercourse and not a rape.

Earlier a lower court had rejected his bail application. The prosecution argued that Shiney, being an influential person, may tamper with the evidence if given bail. Meanwhile, additional public prosecutor Sangeeta Shinde said, “The trial could be over in six months, as it is before a fast-track court.”

The judge asked the prosecution about allegations that the victim had called on Shiney’s landline number several times the previous night and even after the alleged rape, she had spoken to someone on her mobile phone. Shinde said that these facts were not probed as they were revealed by defence only when the actor was brought to court for remand. According to sources Shiney Ahuja will move to Delhi.
