THE NEW England Patriots have released former Ravens linebacker Adalius Thomas, who played in 39 games from 2007-2009 for the England Patriots and had 14 1/2 sacks. Since 2007, Thomas has started in 35 games, and played in 39 out of 48 games. In 2007 the Patriots signed former Ravens LB Adalius Thomas for five years in $35 million. However, the 32-year-old Thomas wasn't expected back with the Patriots in 2010 because his trade was unlikely due to $4.9 million base salary for 2010.
Adalius Thomas was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2000 NFL Draft. Thomas made only 89 tackles in his first three years and was inactive for 12 games in his rookie season, but played in all 16 games in the 2001 season of NFL. Adalius Thomas started 12 games at defensive end in 2002 season. Adalius Thomas earned his second Pro Bowl bid in 2006 as part of a Ravens defense that finished first in the league en route to a 13-3 record.
Thomas' final season in New England Patriots was a rocky one. He was benching for a game against the Tennessee Titans and then being sent home with three other players after arriving late for practice during a snowstorm in December morning. Thomas's release was confirmed on Monday. However, linebacker Adalius Thomas will probably draw interest from the New York Jets as he would be reunited with former Baltimore defensive coordinator Rex Ryan.
