This morning (August 6) twitter went abuzz to mourn the death of noted cartoonist Pran at the age of 75. He was better known for his popular comic characters like Chacha Chaudhary and Sabu.
People, including Bollywood celebrities, remembered
his contribution which were a significant part of their childhood and
expressed grief in the social media on his death.
He had been suffering from cancer from past few
months, and was admitted to a Gurgaon hospital for last few days for
treatment, where he breathed his last on the night of August 5. He
has been cremated in Delhi's Punjabi Bagh in the afternoon today on
Even, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet
express his sadness on the demise of the cartoonist describing him as
a "versatile cartoonist who brought smiles on the faces of
people through his rich work".
Pran Kumar Sharma (1938 - 2014) began working as a
cartoonist in 1960 in Indian dailies, and later he sketched Chacha
Chaudhary for the Hindi magazine Lotpot, which made him famous. He
was included in People of the Year 1995 by Limca Book of Records for
popularizing comics in India. He also received a Lifetime Achievement
Award in 2001from Indian Institute of Cartoonists.
