Adolescent girls' training programme concludes in Odisha
The adolescent girls training programme, 'Sabala Talim Sibir' was conducted from March 6-9 at Misssion Shakti Bhawan, Boriguma and Anganbadi Kendra, Podapadar by Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) associated with Koraput Integrated Development Society (KIDS), Koraput. Around 100 adolescent girls from each anganwari centre actively participated in the training programme.
The adolescent girls interacted with the resources persons and were taught how to develop self-confidence among Kishori girls. They also received lessons on self-awareness about adolescent period, physical and mental changes during adolescent period, ‘hum kissise kam nehi’, knowledge about their hygienic practices, discussion on adolescent reproductive sexual health, myth and misconceptions, gender, ‘main aur meri saheli’, and nutritional practices.
On 9 March 2013, an exposure visit for adolescent girls was also organised to BDO’s office at Boriguma, Police Station at Boriguma and Podapadar, Boriguma Fire Station, Boriguma SBI Bank and Podapadar Utkal Gramya Bank, Post Office Boriguma, Sub Post Office Podapadar, Medical (CHC) Boriguma, and Medical Podapadar. With these visits, these girls were taught how they can approach and do works in their own way.
Prabhati Tripathy, CDPO was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Other eminent resource persons were Aarti Mohapatra, superviser; Sri Hemant Pujari, Block Section Extension Officer; Jeevan Padhi, trainer; Puspanjali Mishra, trainer; Sri Kedarnath Senapati, secretary KIDS; Smt. Gita Patnaik of KIDS; Manas Ranjan Prusti, coordinator of KIDS; D Srinivas Rao, coordinator KIDS; and JR Paricha, Programme Officer.
The entire programme was sponsored by government under Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls (SABALA).
