On the occasion of the World Heart Day (WHD) 2013, World Heart Federation (WHF) urged people to help their children in adopting a heart-healthy living, right from childhood. WHD was observed yesterday, September 29, all over the globe to create awareness for preventing and controlling of cardiovascular disease (CVD).
Heart Day was created in 2000, so as to inform the masses about the about the heart disease and stroke, which is always said to be one of the world's leading cause of death, but it can be prevented by adopting the right life style.
According to WHF, the cardiovascular disease claims 17.3 million lives each year and the numbers are on the rise. However, about 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke can be avoided, if the main risk factors - tobacco, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity are controlled, informs WHF.
"CVD can affect people of all ages and population groups, including women and children. However, their risk can be controlled, treated or modified through everyday heart-healthy behaviours, such as eating a healthy diet, taking regular exercises and avoiding tobacco use," stated the message of World Heart Federation on WHD 2013.
"Today we have an opportunity to prevent the future impact of heart disease and stroke by adopting heart-healthy living from childhood and throughout adulthood," urged WHF while stressing on the necessity of taking right step towards a heart-healthy life.
All around the world, there were a number of news related to free health checks, public talks, runs, and sporting events on the occasion of WHD.
