'Advantage Vidarbha 2013' to attract investors in the crisis-hit region

Top industry leaders including Tata Group Chairman Cyrus Mistry along with Raymond Group’s Gautam Hari Singhania, Jindal Group Vice-Chairman and MD Sajjan Jindal, Indo Rama CMD O P Lohia are slated to participate in the two-day conference so as to attract investments into the region.
“Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithiviraj Chavan will inaugurate the event while Union Minister for Heavy Industries Praful Patel
would preside over the function,” said Kishor Tiwari, President Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti (VJAS), the activist group working for farmers and tribals of Vidarbha, which is the most backward region of Maharashtra.
“Since 1981, private engineering degree and diploma colleges started by politicians including Praful Patel, have produced more than 20 thousand engineers and other management professionals.”
“The number has now crossed two million. They want to come back to serve in Vidarbha. Moreover, around one lakh hectare industrial land with five star infrastructure is available in Nagpur, Amaravati, Akola, Wardha, Gondia, Bhandara and Yavatmal, but poor political leadership and bureaucratic corruption has failed to attract investors to Vidarbha,” Tiwari said.
“Lack of political will is said to be the reason behind Vidarbha’s underdevelopment when compared to other parts of the state,” Tiwari added.
