A legislative decree has been issued by the President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai which gives minority Hindus and Sikhs a seat in the parliament's lower house in the country's next parliamentarian election. With this Afghanistan's parliament would have 250 seats now.
Hindus have welcomed the historic legislative decree issued by President Hamid Karzai to reserve a seat for Hindus and Sikhs in the country’s Wolesi Jirga (the lower house).
Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, termed the Afghanistan's step giving representation to country’s Hindus and Sikhs “a step in the right direction”.
Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, urged Hindus and Sikh nationals of Afghanistan to wholeheartedly work for the development of Afghanistan. Zed urged Karzai to seriously listen to other issues of minority Hindu and Sikh communities of Afghanistan and work on speedy resolution of those.
