After CDMA, Tata Tele ready for GSM foray
India's leading telecom service provider and CDMA giant, Tata Tele recently announced that it is gearing up to venture in GSM world. The company said it was government policy on spectrum allocation, which forced it enter GSM market
CDMA MOBILE services providers Tata Tele is all set to add another feature in its cap as it gets ready to launch GSM services in India. The company which offers CDMA telephony in 20 circles, said that it was government policy on spectrum allocation, which forced it look for alternative means of growth, referring to the GSM decision.
Tata Tele, which pioneered CDMA 3G1x technology in India, has already established a 3G ready telecom infrastructure to offer GSM services to the customers. The company partnered with Motorola, Lucent and ECI telecom to put in place the massive telecom infrastructure throughout the country.
The company presently has 28 million subscribers and is present in 5000 towns of India. After acquiring the GSM licenses, the company is set to add GSM telephony to its bouquet of services.
GSM and CDMA are competing platforms, but now major CDMA operators are vying out for dual licenses to operate both the services.
Tata Tele is part of the Tata group and has a committed investment of 7.5 billion US dollars in the telecom space and has strong presence all across the value chain.
The company has presence in Kerala, Kolkata, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh (E), Uttar Pradesh (W), Andhra Pradesh, Chennai, Gujarat, J & K, Karnataka, Delhi, Maharashtra, Mumbai, North East, Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Bihar.
