The road to Delhi goes via Uttar Pradesh and any political party that dreams of ruling the nation has to come to Uttar Pradesh as the state has 80 parliamentary seats, and nobody can control the Centre well till one has maximum MPs. So TMC is here.
AFTER CONQUERING the Communist bastion in West Bengal, Mamta Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress wants to spread its tentacles beyond the geographical limits of her state, and in order to gain political ground further in the northern belt, the Trinamool Congress has decided to contest Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha elections this time. The party has already opened up its electoral office in the state capital, Lucknow and the party workers have been directed by the party high command to reach out to the masses and spread the policies and programmes of the Trinamool Congress in the state which has come to power in the state of West Bengal on the slogan of “Maa, Maati and Manush.”

Though the people of Uttar Pradesh have good knowledge about the political organization following the railway ministry being headed by the minister who hails from Trinamool Congress and secondly the rise of party following the media hype that was generated post-Singur and Nandigram events in West Bengal.
The party has decided to contest on some 250 seats in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The party’s coordinator for Uttar Pradesh Dr S P Singh said that the party would also be talking to small regional parties and groups where elections can be fought in a coalition. The party has already started making its cadre at the grass-root level.
Political pundits feel the party will not be able to damage political prospects of other major players here in Uttar Pradesh as they have made a very late entry into the state just barely a month before the state would go to polls in the month of February. The local leaders of Trinamool Congress also feel it would take some time for them to reach out to the masses with the message of ‘Didi’ (read Mamta Banerjee) and the party has coined a new slogan here in the state of Uttar Pradesh - “Hindu, Muslim, Sikh aur Isai ke le charno ki dhool, aagey badhi hum sabki Trinamool”.
Though there is a large number of Bengali people living in the state who have settled down here in different cities of Uttar Pradesh, in the time to come the Trinamool Congress could get a dedicated cadre for itself. But as of now there is no immediate threat to any political party and it will take years for the party to really make a good hold here in the state as Uttar Pradesh is quite a big state. So may be in the next Lok Sabha elections that are scheduled to take place in 2014, the Trinamool Congress can perform better and pose a challenge to other political parties in the state.
