Faleomavaega is so far the only Congressman in the 113th Congress who has come out openly in support of Narendra Modi at a time when America has not relaxed visa restrictions against Modi in the wake of Gujarat riots in 2002.
Looking very impressed with Narendra Modi he described Modi's vision as rare and leadership as remarkable. He said that the presence of companies such as Ford, General Motors in Gujarat promises strengthening of US-India trade and investment.
According to media reports, European Union had a secret luncheon meeting with Narendra Modi on January 7 in New Delhi. Modi's lunch with EU is being seen as a strong signal that later is in mood to end the boycott of the former.
As reported by the Indian Express, which quoted a diplomatic source, Modi was invited by the EU ambassadors for majorly two reasons. One is that he had won the Gujarat elections for the third time in a row, which gives him political legitimacy, and secondly he has made his ambition quite clear that he wants to play a national role. The source said that with this now the EU cannot ignore him any more.
