After 'Greyhounds', 'SOG', Maoists kill founder of 'Salwa Judum'
In the biggest ever attack on any political party in India, a senior Congress leader Mahendra Karma, founder of 'Salwa Judum' in Chhatishgarh's Bastar district, was shot dead along with other dozens of party's leaders and workers on Saturday last by suspected Maoists.

Around 40 Congress leaders including former Minister Bidya Charan Shukla who sustained bullet injury during the attack were admitted to a Jagdalpur hospital. A former Congress MLA from Rajnandgaon Udaya Mudalyar was also shot dead and prominent women leader Phulodevi Netam of Bastar was wounded by the Maoists.

The Maoists attacked the convoy at around 5:30pm on Saturday as the Congress leaders were returning from the party's "Parivartan rally".  The Congress PCC President Nanda Kumar Patel and his son Dinesh, who were kidnapped on Saturday, were also killed and their dead bodies were recovered by the police on Sunday.

Karma, a former Home Minister who was guiding force behind "Salwa Judum" – an anti- Naxal vigilante group - was the real target of the Maoists. The Maoists put up road blocks by felling trees before triggering a landmine blast that hit one of the vehicles in the convoy, and opened fire, police sources said.

The founder of "Greyhounds", G. Vasu, an IPS officer in Andhra Pradesh, was the first officer who was killed by the Naxalites.  Sarat Mishra, founder of "Special Operation Group", was also killed while he was returning from a combing operation at Kalimela of Malkangiri district in Odisha.  The third person who was the founder of "Salwa Judum", Mahendra Karma was killed on Saturday last.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi visited Chhatishgarh and condemned the brutal attack on Congress leaders. The combing operation has been intensified by the Chhattisgarh government. The Congress party has demanded a high level probe into the incident.

Malkangiri police have seized the border area of Chhattisgarh to prevent any untoward incident in Odisha.
