AGP declares its second candidate list in Assam
With the second phase of polls closing in on April 4 and April 11, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) declared its second list of candidates, which also includes former CM Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and former president of the party Brindabon Goswami.
THE MAIN opposition party of Assam, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has declared its second list of candidates containing 35 names for the ensuing two-phased Assembly polls slated for April 4 and April 11. In today’s list, the party has nominated 17 sitting legislators of the present Assembly including 2 women. The leader of Opposition, former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and former president of the party Brindabon Goswami have retained the Berhampur and Tezpur constituencies respectively. The party had earlier announced the names of 31 candidates for the ensuing polls. On the other hand, CPI(ML) also declared its 8 members candidate list in Guwahati today.
Meanwhile, the Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi, accompanied by two Election Commissioners today reviewed the poll preparedness with the district election officers, the Divisional Commissioners, the superintendents of police, DIGs and IGPs at Guwahati. Earlier, the Commission separately met the representatives of the political parties and took their views for smooth conduct of the election. The Election Commission will have discussions with the State Chief Secretary, Home Commissioner and the Director General of Police tomorrow morning at a meeting at Raj Bhavan in Guwahati to review the overall security management during the polls.
