AIDS patients of Bihar demand release of BNP president
AIDS IS a pandemic killer disease, for which prevention is the only cure. Despite global awareness, programmes and funding for the prevention and control of this disease, the percentage of HIV+ and AIDS victims is increasing at an alarming rate not only in Bihar and India, but in the other countries also.

ON THE the occasion of the World AIDS Day, a social organization – Bihar Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS Society (BNP), Patna observed Black Day against the arrest of the BNP President Gyan Ranjan. He was arrested on November 14 by the Project Director of the Bihar State AIDS Control Society, Patna. On November 7, 2012 he demanded free life saving medicines for the helpless, hopeless and poor HIV/AIDS patients of Bihar in Patna.

“We want immediate release of our President Gyan Ranjan. He is also a chronic AIDS patient. His condition is critical in the Jail due to the lack of proper medicare and food. There is lack of medicines in the ART centers of Bihar. Is demand for AIDS medicines is a crime ? We want justice and social security for the survival of the helpless, hopeless and poor HIV/AIDS Patients of Bihar, ” said BNP secretary and AIDS patient Raj Kumar Singh to the mediapersons.

Despite global awareness, programmes and funding for the prevention and control of this disease, the percentage of HIV+ and AIDS victims is increasing at an alarming rate not only in Bihar and India, but in the other countries also.

Under the banner of BNP, nearly about 300 HIV/AIDS patients of Bihar, Jharkhand, UP, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra and other states observed one day protest Day at the Kargil Chauk, near North –East Gandhi Maidan in Patna.

They were demanding immediate release of BNP President from the Jail and provision of medicines for HIV/AIDS patients at the all ART centers of different districts of Bihar for the survival of the patients. They were wearing black ribbons on their heads and red ribbons on their chests.

A number of women patients participated in this programme. They shared their bitter experiences and sad stories. They are all struggling for food, life saving drugs, shelter, financial help/ employment, social security and justice.
