AIDWA condemns gangrape and murder of two sisters in UP; protest march in Delhi today
Women rights organisation AIDWA has condemned the heinous gang rape and murder of two teenaged girls in Badaun district of UP during the night of May 29th 2014. The two girls, belonging to Dalit community were reportedly raped and murdered by a group of boys belonging to the same village of Katra.

AIDWA expressed shock on shocked on the barbaric nature of the assault - medical evidence reveals that the girls were not only gang raped but also strung up on trees even while they were alive. The apathy of the police on receiving reports of the girls’ absence once again highlights the irresponsibility and lack of accountability of the police in such cases, says AIDWA.

While the perpetrators of this horrendous crime have been arrested, and some action has been initiated against the erring police personnel, AIDWA demanded that the investigation into the crime be conducted as speedily as possible.

A fast track Court should be set up for this purpose, and an early verdict should be delivered, without sparing any of the culprits. There should be appropriate punishment meted out to the police personnel guilty of dereliction of duty also.

A delegation comprising of AIDWA General Secretary Jagmati Sangwan, and JMS General Secretary Sehba Farooqi visited the area. The UP committee of AIDWA is submitting a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

In a statement AIDWA said that it will take up the fight of justice to the two girls, in UP, as well as at the all India level. A protest march will be also take place today in Delhi. The women rights group has also decided to organise protest marches in other state headquarters.
