AIDWA condemns gangrape and murder of two sisters in UP; protest march in Delhi today
Women rights organisation AIDWA has condemned the heinous gang rape and murder of two teenaged girls in Badaun district of UP during the night of May 29th 2014. The two girls, belonging to Dalit community were reportedly raped and murdered by a group of boys belonging to the same village of Katra.
expressed shock on shocked on the barbaric nature of the assault -
medical evidence reveals that the girls were not only gang raped but
also strung up on trees even while they were alive. The apathy of the
police on receiving reports of the girls’ absence once again
highlights the irresponsibility and lack of accountability of the
police in such cases, says AIDWA.
the perpetrators of this horrendous crime have been arrested, and
some action has been initiated against the erring police personnel,
AIDWA demanded that the investigation into the crime be conducted as
speedily as possible.
A fast track Court should be set up for this
purpose, and an early verdict should be delivered, without sparing
any of the culprits. There should be appropriate punishment meted out
to the police personnel guilty of dereliction of duty also.

JMS General Secretary Sehba Farooqi visited the area. The UP
committee of AIDWA is submitting a memorandum addressed to the Chief
Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
