Air hostess molestation: Airline is the biggest culprit
The use of attractive air hostesses in these flights comes about to be no less than blatant commodification of women. The very purpose that they are used is to ensure the attractiveness of the airline in the minds of the customers.

RECENTLY, THE quarrel between the pilots and crew of a leading airline has dominated the news. An air hostess was reportedly assaulted and molested by pilots, following which some crew members picked up a fight with the accused.

While the airline has grilled both the pilots, eyewitnesses, and sent the air hostess for a medical report, the National Commission for Women is also demanding answers from the airline.

The flight management, should also share the guilt over this incident. The question that arises is why should airlines in particular require hostesses? In India, people every day travel via multiple modes of public transport like buses, trains and airlines. If hostess' services are not required in the previous two, then why are they needed for air travel?

The use of attractive air hostesses in these flights comes about to be no less than blatant commodification of women. The very purpose that they are used is to ensure the attractiveness of the airline in the minds of the customers. So, are such shameful incidents only the fault of such lewd customers or pilots? Isn't the airline, which demands that its hostesses must meet certain attractive quotients responsible too.

Further, the pilots in this case received token punishments from the airline. The airline must hand out strict punishments to such persons and ensure that all understand that such indiscipline woujld not be tolerated.

For future safer flights, the airline should install CCTVs in the cockpit and in crew areas, apart from keeping a police personnel on board, so that the such vulgar moments are not repeated.
