Air India plane to Riyadh catches fire
The Air India flight to Riyadh caught fire on September 4, just as the plane was preparing to take-off. One of the engines of AI 829, emitted sparks at take-off. All passengers were evacuated safely and the situation was quickly brought under control
TRAGEDY WAS averted in Mumbai on Friday (September 4), after 213 passengers on board an Air India plane bound to Riyadh (AI 829) were evacuated safely, when one of the engines of the aircraft reportedly emitted sparks and caught fire when it was taxing on the runway.
 
Emergency was declared at the airport after fire and smoke was noticed in one of the engines of the aircraft during push back. Airport authorities immediately swung into action and pressed four fire tenders to bring the situation under control.
 
All the passengers on board the plane were safely evacuated from the plane and taken back to the terminal.
 
Air India has said that one of the engines had caught fire but the situation was brought immediately under control. All the passengers are safe and they will be accommodated on another flight, the airline said.
 
Earlier on August 25, a Bangalore bound Air India flight had returned to Mumbai airport after developing a technical snag. Flight IC 109 had to return to the airport after developing technical problems but all the passengers were safe.
