It must be mentioned that DGCA had also found that some airlines had fixed fares, which were beyond reasonable limit. Particularly, in light of the fact that some of the airlines on the same route were offering lesser fares.
THE UNION government on Thursday issued a directive to all the airlines in the country to come up with an all inclusive and easy to understand fare chart, in the manner done by Air India. The airlines have also been asked to set the fares at reasonable rates, which are consumer friendly and do not deter the fliers from travelling.
It must be mentioned that Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had also found that some airlines had fixed fares, which were beyond reasonable limit. Particularly, in light of the fact that some of the airlines on the same route were offering lesser fares. Meanwhile, the general perception is that while fares can increase by 10 to 35 per cent in a year, it was not feasible for the fares to triple in a year. A DGCA official said that while settling of the fares was the onus of airlines but fleecing of the passengers could not be allowed.
The union government directive has also made it clear that airlines should make the fare range chart simple and easy to understand. It has now asked the airlines to make it clear about how they calculate the distance, change of flight and so on and so forth so that the all inclusive fare can be calculated for the passengers.
