Akbaruddin Owaisi always makes notorious comments in his speeches, but in his recent speech where he addressed a huge rally of Muslims in Nirmal town for two hours, he made several derogatory and provocative comments against Hindus deities, Narendra Modi, BJP, Vishwa Hindu parishad, India and the United States of America. He compared Narendra Modi with Ajmal Kasab, and questioned that when Ajmal Kasab had been hanged then why not Narendra Modi? He also made several derogatory comments on Lord Rama and his mother Kaushalya.

Akbaruddin Owaisi is being criticized by several organizations, notable people and social activists for his controversial speech. The speech also sparked outrage on Twitter, and the Twitterati are demanding rigorous action against him. Political analysts are saying that the speech given by Akbaruddin Owaisi at Nirmal have greatly damaged the image of MIM party. This proves that MIM leaders are still living in an older generation and are unaware of the social, political and technological growth in the country. This incident also gave an impression that such leaders cannot lead the country, reported The Times of India.

In 2007, Owaisi had threatened to act on the fatwa to kill Salman Rushdie and behead Taslima Nasreen if any one of them ever visited the city of Hyderabad.

He has also been involved in a viscious property clash in which he was shot three times and stabbed in the stomach in 2009. Immediately after giving his 'hate speech', Owaisi left for London to get medical treatment for the wounds he received due to the knifing.
