THIS COUNTRY has seen many actors through generations. One such name, which shall remain forever in the history of Bollywood is Akshay Kumar. Right from the Canadian Prime Minister calling him the Brad Pitt of India, to many claiming him to be the desi version of Tom Cruise, the dashing khiladi has come a long way from his struggling days to become the numero uno of the most sought after field in India – Bollywood.

The year 2009 started on a bad note. However, with the positive response that De Dana Dan has garnered so far, one can conclude that Akshay Kumar is now a larger than life figure who is not affected by hits or flops. Neither will the rising popularity of  any other star bother him.

He was the same guy who was unshaken by 15 successive flops. His critics had even written him off by stating “If there is anything worse than tolerating Akshay Kumar, it is to see him in a double role” (This was stated when Jai Kishen released in which he donned a double role). Now, he is satisfied after having made a record with four consecutive hits in a single year (2007), which no Khan has ever done.

Critics might still complain that he does senseless movies and hence has no appeal. If that were true, his movies would not make a tenth of the actual collections. And, if art cinema is what people vouch for, every movie catering to the multiplex audience would be a definite blockbuster, which, sadly is not true.

A few years back, it was stated that Akshay Kumar is a wooden actor. Over the years, he has reinvented himself with sheer dedication and has many names such as ‘The Hit Machine’, The Ultimate Khiladi, King Kumar, God of Comedy, Unmatchable action icon to name a few.

Also, the amount of unfair criticism he gets can be easily explained. As a great person had rightly quoted – "Super Star status doesn't come with a box of marshmallows and a trophy; this label comes with a few slaps from some rotten fish and a dead mouse everyday.” And that person is none other than the dashing, suave, heart throb of millions – Dilli da Munda – Akshay Kumar.

Padmashree, Highest honour in martial arts, Brand ambassador at the Olympics and the everincreasing list never seems to end. What else should one do to snatch away the ‘Khiladi’ title from him? He is the Khiladi in reel life and a winner in real life.
