AMERICAN INTELLIGENCE officials have said that the two explosive devices found aboard U.S.-bound cargo plane from Yemen, have underscored the threat from Yemen and Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
Intelligence officials said an American-born radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, has publicly called for more attacks on the United States.
Packages had been discovered in FedEx flight in Dubai and a U.P.S. cargo plane at East Midlands Airport in the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, Yemeni government has launched a full investigation. However, no suspects have been arrested so far.
United States president Barack Obama said at a news conference in White House, "We suspect Al-Qaeda's Yemeni-based affiliate of being behind the plot, which could have severe ramifications for the global cargo industry. Although we are still pursuing all of the facts, we do know that the packages originated in Yemen."
White House counter-terrorism chief, John Brennan said, each package was roughly the size of a bread box and contained "explosive materials ... in a form that was designed to try to carry out some type of attack." He also said "we don't want to presume that we know the bounds of this plot.''
Yemen is the ancestral homeland of world's most hated terrorist Osama bin Laden and becoming the headquarters of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
