Alice in Wonderland beats Avatar, makes record earnings
Alice in Wonderland, which includes actors like Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathway, Mia Wasikowska and Alan Rickman, has shattered opening records set by Avatar, making $116.3 million in its opening weekend.
DEFEATING ANY doubts, the 3D magnum opus by Tim Burton has earned its place in history. Alice in Wonderland has made a record $116.3 million in its opening records, shattering those made by Avatar. Not only does it now hold the record for record weekend performance, but also for record openings made by a 3D movie.
Alice in Wonderland, which includes actors like Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathway, Mia Wasikowska and Alan Rickman in its stellar star cast, may also make the record for the top earner in the first three months of a year. The Disney film has already relegated Martin Scorsese film Shutter Island to the third spot earning wise, while Avatar is on the fifth spot earnings wise.
The Tim Burton interpretation of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, adds many elements to the story which enhance it further and grip not only the children who have gone to see it, but also the adult audience. The film looks at the Lewis Carroll's Alice all grown up, who does not remember her childhood adventures.
Mia wasikowska who plays Alice, takes a second adventure down the rabbit hole, following the white rabbit, (Michael Sheen) into a realm under the iron rule of the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter) and her general the Knave of hearts (Crispin Glover). She joins the rebels, including the Dormouse (Barbara Windsor), a Dodo bird (Michael Gough), the twins Tweedledee and Tweedledum (Matt Lucas), Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) and March Hare (Paul Whitehouse).
Anne Hathaway plays the White Queen, while Alan Rickman comes to this adventure as the Caterpillar. Stephan Fry, meanwhile, is the Cheshire Cat.
