Ford has launched its all new premium flagship SUV Ford Endeavour based on a new platform in two engine variants – 2.2 litre and 3.2 litre Duratorq TDCi diesel. As an industry first, knee airbags have been introduced in the new Endeavour.

Ford is expected to heat up the competition to its rival Toyota, which is the segment leader in premium SUV's with its Fortuner model. Ford has also strategically priced the new Endeavor lower in comparison to the Japanese car maker's Fortuner. Endeavour will come in a total of 7 variants which have peen priced between Rs 24.75 lakh to Rs 29.46 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai).

Originally introduced in the Indian market in 2003, Endeavor has been the American car maker's one of the most popular models so far, but Ford discontinued its previous models in 2015, after the last variant was introduced in 2009. The new Endeavour which will be assembled at the Chennai plant will come in 2-wheel, 4-wheel as well as automatic drive versions.

While the engines and platform are new, the interiors too have been refurbished with bucket seats at the front, LED lamps, multi-information display, remote key entry, one-touch power windows and rear parking sensors. The new generation Ford Endeavour gets dual front airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags and driver knee airbags, besides ABS with EDB. All variants will also have 3-row air-conditioning, but tyre pressure monitor, front parking sensors and sunroof come only in the highest variant Titanium.

The 4WD system of the new Endeavour is in close resemblance to the Land Rover, where a dial is provided to adjust the car to suit various road terrains with modes like Sand, Snow/Mud and Rock.

The new Endeavour will be imported as CKD, with only assembling required at the Chennai plant.
