Instead of 14,800 crore demanded by the Bihar government, the Union cabinet had approved only 117 crore for the victims of Kosi floods saying that it is an insult to the flood victims.
The all party delegation was lead by JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav and also comprised RJD chief Laloo Yadav, JD(U) state president Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Shivannd Tiwari, NK Singh, Jagdish Sharma, Ranjan Yadav, Arjun Rai and state BJP president Radhamohn Singh and MP Shahnawaz Hussain.
The MPs complained to the Prime Minister that despite terming the Kosi floods as a national disaster, the Union government had decided to give an amount of just 117 crore as flood relief, which was too less keeping in view the gravity of the disaster.
The delegation also demanded that Union government should take immediate steps to increase power production in the state. MPs from Bihar also demanded support for implementing Ethanol based power plants in state.
They also asked the Prime Minister to release funds for the construction of national highways in Bihar as the work was suffering due to non-availability of resources. They also expressed reservations over the dissolution of a separate cell for Bihar, which was set up for ensuring balanced development of the state.
On his part, the Prime Minister while making it clear that he was not in favour for the special status for Bihar said the Centre will take every step to ensure the development of Bihar. He said that the Union government believes that without the development of Bihar, it was not possible for India to go ahead.
