What makes the matter serious is the involvement of British authorities, who have raised red flag over the manner in which over 4.50 lakh pounds have been transferred to AM Films company through a British bank.
IN THE evergrowing list of major snags hitting the Commonwealth Games, a major controversy has now come to surround the Games Organising Committee. Allegations have surfaced that a substantial amount of money was being transferred by the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OC) to a little known company in the United Kingdom.
What makes the matter serious is the involvement of British authorities, who have raised red flag over the manner in which over 4.50 lakh pounds have been transferred to AM Films company through a British bank. The company is said to be run by a single person and has been receiving 25000 pounds per month. Interestingly, the entire scam came out in the open when the CWG organising committee sought VAT refund of 14,000 pounds for the money paid to the British company.
A letter issued by the British Revenue and Customs Department to the Indian High Commission in UK has raised questions about the business relations between the CGW Organising Committee and AM Films. The department has said that there was neither any written contract nor paper work regarding the business to be conducted between the two entities. Ostensibly the payments were made by CWG OC to AM films for providing car hire, setting up toilets, bariers and provision of electricity. Meanwhile, the Indian High Commission in UK has said that the entire information and queries raised by UK authorities have been forwarded to the Sports ministry in India for suitable action.
