Am I supposed to play football, asks an irritated Karan Johar

Shahrukh Khan had an eventful 2012 what with fights and disagreements erupting at almost each and every turn. In spite of all the slapping, screaming and arguments, every Bollywood follower believed that nothing could happen to cause a rift between BFF's SRK and Karan Johar.

HOWEVER, THINGS don't look so rosy at the moment, especially when Johar decided to give SRK's New Year party a miss inspite of the fact that he did fly to Dubai at the same time.

A source close to Johar said, “Karan did receive an invite from SRK, and for the longest time he was actually in two minds whether he should miss it or be there. For years they have ushered in the New Year together in Dubai. You can say, the tradition was broken for the first time,” reported the Zee News website.

As tradition would have it Shahrukh Khan spends New Year in his Palm Jumeirah residence in Dubai and invites people close to him to celebrate. This year too, he did sent an invite to Johar and according to sources the filmmaker was in two minds whether to attend the party or not but at the last moment decided to give it a miss.

Rubbishing all these reports Karan Johar said, “I was in downtown Dubai while Shahrukh was in Palm Jumeirah. We were busy in our corners of the city. And anyone who knows Dubai well can vouch for the fact that it’s a nightmare to travel from downtown Dubai to Palm Jumeirah (on New Year’s Eve). The area is cordoned off for the elaborate fireworks display.”

Insisting that everything is fine between him and SRK, Karan also said that he has not been celebrating New Year's eve with SRK for three years, so why all the question all of a sudden. Reportedly, the party thrown by Khan was attended by his other friends Boney Kapoor, Sridevi, Chunkey Pandey and wife, Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor.

Irritated by all the clamor of the media about his absence from SRK's party, Karan finally retorted, “We spend 360 days in a year with each other anyway. Also, Shahrukh and Gauri’s New Year celebrations were largely meant for the kids (the children of Boney Kapoor- Sridevi, Chunkey and Bhavna Pandey, and Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor were also present along with their parents). Shahrukh tweeted that he played soccer with Suhana till 5 am on the beach. Am I expected to go and play football? It’s a very silly thing.”
