IN YET another token admission, a top US general has said that Pakistan was indeed responsible for fomenting terrorism in Afghanistan and India. The statement by Admiral Mike Mullen came just some time before he was to meet Indian Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor, on Thursday.
Speaking to a news channel, Mullen said that Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) will have to change its strategy of supporting terror and violence against the two countries. Mullen minced no words in saying that ISI had been supporting terror activities in Kashmir and in frontier areas, in pursuance of its strategic depth policy. Mullen's strong words send a clear message to to Pakistan, that it's time to change its policy of supporting terror as a strategic tool.
It also puts a question mark on allegations that India is behind the ongoing insurgency in Baluchistan and is also hand-in-glove with Afghanistan, to destabilise Pakistan. Time and again, Islamabad has opposed perceived Indian influence in Afghanistan, despite the fact that India is playing an important role in rebuilding and reconstructing that country.
.ISI formenting trouble in Afganistan and Kashmir-by admiral Mullen, is confimation of what India has been saying all along. USA has sufficient leverage with Pakistan. We would like to see how for Pakistan goes to change its strategy with respect to India. I donot see Pakistan changing its strategy against India as their survival depends upon this. By adopting this strategy, Pakistan wants to weeken India, not even bothering that the same ultimately is harming them the most.Pakistani people are blinded by backward thinking of jeahad against India as well as playing in the hands of China.
