The US led NATO forces wish Pakistan Army had played a major role in defeating Taliban terrorists in Afghanistan. However, Pakistan's loyalties are divided. The WILL to engage Terror is missing.
THE TRAINING project is doomed to fail. There is so much mistrust between the American-trainers and Pakistani-trainees that none of the two has his heart in it. A big establishment has come up the plant of US aid to train soldiers of Pakistan’s Frontier Corps to take on the taliban terrorist effectively.
Americans had stopped military aid to Pakistan in 1990s when the latter had detonated the nuclear device with the active aid of China and North korea. The Pakistani military and civil administration have not been able to get over it.Americans have placated Pakistanis by giving them US dollars in cash and lethal weapon system to equip and maintain its Army deployed in the AFPAK region to annihilate and eliminate the Al Qaida guided Taliban terrorists. However, despite receiving US military aid to the tune of 10 billion US dollars per year, Pakistanis do not have a good progress report to show on the ground. They have divided loyalties, leaning more towards Muslim brotherhood because of pressure of junior officers and Jawans. Americans have delivered the first of the three F 16 fighter jets that fly by day and night. A group of American trainers is already in Pakistan to train Pakistani pilots.
Americans are Christians and Pakistanis are Muslims. The latter have their kith and kin among the rank and file of the Taliban and even Al Qaida, arch enemies of America. The Frontier Corps whom the US officers and CIs are training speak Pushto, the same language as spoken by the Taliban terrorists. Marital relationship among the two divergent groups is not uncommon. How can Pakistani frontier Corps soldiers fire on their loved ones across the fence "Counting on tribal loyalties, loyalty to uniform means nothing. The standard of education of the Frontier Corps Jawans is low and many have failed to qualify for training courses where handling and firing of latest precision rifles like M 24 are taught. Those who cannot handle new rifles will not become marksmen to take on Taliban as sharp shooters. By the way, the Taliban are well armed and well trained in modern weaponry and tactics as dictated by the broken ground of tribal areas across the AFPAK borders. Finally, the deep mistrust that the Pakistan military brass has for the US high command prevents them from releasing manpower for specialised training. The new courses are less than 50% subscribed. The Pakistan Army headquarters at Rawalpindi says that most of the Army is already deployed in the tribal areas to fight against the ever growing strength of the Taliban terrorists. However, the fact is that Pakistan still has a major deployment of its Army against India on the eastern front around Lahore.Pakistan also does not want too many American military personnel all over the place in Pakistan. The Muslim sensitivity has to be taken care of by Islamabad. That explains why this new training centre opened between Lahore and Rawalpindi does not have more than 150 US officers and Enlisted Men on the facility at any given time. Looking at the circumstances of the new training facility, an independent military observer may say that the whole exercise falls short of achieving the aim of confidence building between the two erstwhile friends and now estranged partners in a marriage of convenience.
AUM.
Rather unfortunate. The mistrust between Christian nations and Islamic nations is growing day by day.
As of now, no way out. Shall see and review later. Hope is there.
The US has earned Pakistani mistrust duely just like they earned it in Iran, Afghanistan and most of the Muslim world. Islam, fundamently believes in Free Economy the model so professed by the Americans. But, the age old Christian / Mulim wars are so alive in the hearts of the American Policy makers that they screwed the Muslime countries repeatedly and now the mistrust is deeper than ever.
