AFTER A gap of four years, the legendary folk singer Dr Bhupen Hazarika returns to the sphere of music once again. He kept himself busy in a recording studio in Mumbai on February 9 and 10.The Dada Saheb Phalke Awardee of 1988 lent his voice for a programme for National Geographic/History Channel on February 9, which is being produced by Surabhi Foundation.
On February 10, two poems recited by him were recorded to be used in the bilingual film ‘As the River Flows’ (in Hindi) and Ekhon Nedekha Nadir Xipare (in Assamese). Music for the film is composed by Zubeen Garg and the film is being directed by Bidyut Kotoki. It is almost after 20 years that Dr. Hazarika recited a poem for a film. Dr. Hazarika has been a poet, journalist, singer, lyricist, musician, filmmaker, writer and a politician. He is regarded as the only living balladeer in the country, composing his own lyrics and music. He was away from recording studios for the last for years due to his poor health. It is worth mentioning that he also featured in the Phir Mile Sur commercial, released on January 26, 2010.
