Amit Shah becomes BJP president; analysts see it a move toward Modi-fying BJP
Amit Shah, a close aide to PM Narendra Modi and a prominent saffron leader from Gujarat has been finally rewarded for his spectacular performance in Uttar Pradesh during the just concluded Lok Sabha elections. Shah, who managed to win 71 Lok Sabha seats for the party as General Secretary in-charge of UP, has been declared BJP's national president today.

Amit Shah's name has been declared by the party's parliamentary board, the highest decision making body in the presence of PM Narendra Modi, and former president and home minister Rajnath Singh. With this, at 49, Shah will be one of the youngest president of the party. This appointment is being hailed as a 'new era' in the party.

According to the party sources, the elevation of Shah is expected to give the required motivation to the party cadres preparing for the Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Jharkhand and Maharashtra.

Amit Shah is also expected to announce a new team with in the party to deal with various responsibilities. The party may announce a new team of spokespersons, as Nirmala Sitharaman and Prakash Javadekar have become ministers in the Cabinet.

Political analysts while commenting on Shah's elevation as BJP's national chief said that it is a move toward Modi-fying BJP.

Sudhir Panwar, a political analyst from Lucknow University said, "There are multiple reasons behind making Amit Shah as BJP Chief, like his organizational skills are very good, and Modi wants to bring Shah to Centre. And the most important thing is that they want to keep single 'power center' that is 'Modi', and as Shah is the Narendra Modi's confidant, so he has been selected for this post. So Shah will work for Modi being the chief of BJP."

Now it has to bee seen whether Amit Shah would be able to repeat his UP magic in Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand, where Assembly elections are to be held in next three months?
