Amitabh Bachchan comes to the rescue of an elephant
Evoking his star power, Amitabh Bachchan came to the rescue of an elephant named Bijlee by adding his voice to the appeal to help the animal in any way possible. 58-year-old Bijlee, who is ailing and needs help is being looked after by NGO Animals Matter To Me (AMTM) and a lot of people came forward to help once the Superstar appealed for the elephant on his Twitter and Facebook accounts.

She belongs to the family of priests and has developed a high viral fever after being inflicted by large, maggot-infected wound on her hind leg. Despite the heavy rains, efforts by many were seen to provide medical aid. After the initial plea for help, Bachchan also posted some pictures of Bijlee being lifted up by a crane in Facebook.

AMTM came forward to help Bijlee at a time when she was lying in the middle of the road with no help from the zoo authorities or the civic body. Now she is being kept at a temporary shelter and the city Congress and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leaders have also volunteered to help her.

She has been examined by a local veterinarian and luckily, she is responding to medicines. According to Zee News, an elephant-specialist veterinarian is expected to arrive from Assam to treat Bijlee. She is being given a balanced diet supplemented with medicines and nutrients. The NGO has appealed for food, medicines, money and time from volunteers as keeping an elephant is a bit costly.
