Two people from Gurgaon- Prabhat Malik and Prerna Sharma have cleared the Union Public Service Commission Examination (UPSC) 2013 examination. They are among the 1,122 candidates who cleared the examination. There were 1,228 vacancies.
Prabhat Malik, who is a
resident of Civil lines and an IIT Kanpur
alumnus quit his job to
compete for the examination. In his very first attempt he got 270
rank. Prerna Sharma, whose parents say that she is a very hard
working and disciplined girl, sat for the examination for a
second time and was ranked 276.
Talking about the pattern
of the examination, Malik told timesofindia.com, ''The new exam
pattern encourages students to prepare on their own. I have a lot of
friends who didn't take any coaching and got through the examination.
I think one needs to be good with their general knowledge and have a
flair for writing to crack the examination. My father works with the
Indian Forest Department. He encouraged me to take up civil services.
I think it is a very satisfactory job.''
Prerna Sharma, who lives in Sector 15
Phase II took professional help to train for IPS this year. Last
year, she was competing for IAS. She said, ''As I couldn't get IAS
last year, I decided to appear for the examination once again. I'm
quite hopeful to get IAS this time." She was a topper in History
in her college and she was a student of Delhi University.
