Analysts doubt success of Rahul Gandhi's self-appraisal concept

The new corporate style self-evaluation and assessment of one's worthiness and capabilities will decide whether a Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief will continue on his post or needs to be replaced. Political experts like Avadhesh Kumar have raised serious doubts over the success of this new concept, while saying that this is not going to do any benefit to the Congress.

The Vice-President of the Congress party Rahul Gandhi has introduced the concept of self-appraisal for the chiefs of various state units to fix accountability and make the organisation more responsive. Under this, every state Congress president will be required to complete a self-appraisal form through which the party leadership at the national level will measure his performance.

Filling up forms is not a difficult task and it will not give any strength to the Congress. Anyone can do it. The difficult task is to follow the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi who asked every Congress member to work at the grassroots level in villages. How many Congress members are willing to do it today? ” Avadhesh Kumar told this citizen journalist .

In the appraisal form, a state unit chief will be required to highlight the road map for the next three months to strengthen the organization from the grass-roots level. The PCC chief will also spell out his or her level of commitment towards the party. Further, they have to reveal their strategy for assembly and parliamentary elections and by-elections in their states.

While answering the questionnaire in the form, state leadership has to discuss about the prevailing political and economic situation in their respective states. Using the form the state presidents could inform the national leadership about the problems faced by them in their functioning. They could also refer to infighting and point out to trouble-makers who are posing as a hurdle in the way of smooth functioning of the party.

Once the forms are completely filled the state unit heads have to get them signed by Congress legislature party (CLP) leaders and in-charge general secretaries and then only submit it to Rahul Gandhi. At his end Rahul Gandhi will hold fresh round of meetings with state leaders after preparing a detailed summary of the appraisal forms.
