Though the Hyderabad Metro Water Board officials are not in favor of the populist scheme, they are left with no option after the minister pitched for the Delhi Model. The Cabinet may consider and approve it, as the elections are just couple of months away.
An apartment complex of about 700 odd flats was constructed a decade ago. The builder/promoter has not taken any amount from the flat buyers towards water connection, as the municipality has laid water main lines in that area. In the recent past, when the lines were laid and the flat owners approached the officials for the water connection, they were informed that as per the Multi Storied Building Rules the connections charges have to paid.
The resident flat owners have given a representation to the elected representatives as well as to the government requesting to waive off the connection charges and provide metered connection, so that, they can pay monthly charges as per consumption. On this issue, neither the elected representatives nor the government responded favorably. They insisted on payment as per rules to avail the connection.
What surprises the people most is when they put forward a proposal for some concession without affecting the inflow to the exchequer, none of the elected representatives come forward to speak to the government nor the government help the needy. Such is the tendency of the politicians.
