ANDRA PRADESH government has come up with a positive plan to attract more investors with an aim to compete with Gujarat. The government has announced one airport for each of the 23 districts of state as a part of the plan. With Samshabad International Airport in Hyderabad, government had sent another project report for an international airport in port city of Visakhapatnam, for which the central government has given a positive response.

Andhra Pradesh government had begun the process to start the airport works in eight districts initially. Works will start from September of this year in places like Nizamabad, Warangal, Nellore, Kadapa, Ongole, Kothagudem, Ramagundam, and Kurnool districts. For that, the government had approved Rs 1600 crores. The government opened pre-qualified tenders for the newly proposed airports. Several national and international organisations had shown interest.

After finalising the pre-qualified tenders government of Andhra Pradesh and the Airports Authority of India will go forward with the financial bid. The project files of the new airport are moving quickly approving the necessary permissions. Airports areas are being identified by the government through district collectors of each district. However, one area is yet to be finalised.

Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and industrial investments are making way into the state. To meet these demands it is essential to develop new ports and airports, official sources said.

The government of Andhra Pradesh has taken no financial help from the central government in developing airports. All these airports will be developed under the private participation with government of Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh also decided to install the Aviation Corporation, first of its kind in country, for which Rs 15 crores has been introduced by the government in the recent budget. The government also allotted a sum of Rs 60 crores to Hyderabad International, Visakhapattanam, and Rajahmundry airports for further development.
