Fans wouldn't be able to see Andrea Petkovic in action during the Australian Open this year, as she is down with a lower back stress fracture. Australian Open is the first grand slam of the year.
WITH JUST few days left for the Australian Open to begin, Andrea Petkovic suffered a huge setback as she had to pull out from the first Grand Slam of the year, which is scheduled to start on 16th of January 2012 at Melbourne Park. She is one of the best German players in the WTA circuit; who could have given a fight to the top contenders for the Australian Open 2012.

Through her twitter account she went public about her absence from the Australian Open, "Sorry to announce that I had to withdraw from the Australian Open with a lower back stress fracture. Going back home, will miss my Aussie fans!” She must have picked her injury from the last match that she played in Sydney International. She even had to call a trainer during the game to receive some treatment, reported espnstar.com. Though, she has been playing with some injuries for the past months or so.
It was a good chance for the player to put up an impressive show, as she was given a seeding of 10 for the championship. It is disappointing for the player, as she has had a decent run last year and was looking to improve upon last year’s performance, which had brought her in the limelight on some occasions.
She is not the only player in the WTA circuit to be missed in action during the Australian Open 2012, as another player, Venus Williams would also miss the event.
