BRITISH TENNIS hope, Andy Murray beat Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero 7-5, 6-3, 6-2 to reach the semifinal of Wimbledon championship, thus becoming the ony third British to reach the semis in the open era.

Murray, 22, played an almost flawless game to demolish his opponent Ferrero in a match that lasted 1 hour and 41 minutes.

Murray now faces Andy Roddick of the United States on Friday, who overcame an epic battle against Aussie Lleyton Hewitt to book a place in the semifinal.

Murray carries the hope of the entire Britain as he is only third English player to reach the last four of the tournament, since 1968.

Tim Henman reached the semifinal in 1973, while Roger Taylor reached the semis in 1970 and 1973.

In the match against Ferrero, Murray was also helped by the large number of unforced errors by the Spaniard.

In another quarterfinal, American Andy Roddick beat Lleyton Hewitt in an epic battle, with both players giving their best to outwit each other.

In the end, Roddick managed to finish off the Aussie in a match that lasted for 3 hours and 50 minutes.
