Angry Brides: An innovative try but will it bring results?
Another innovative game has joined the Facebook brigade, thanks to Shaadi.com but this time the game is with a message. People are positive about the game but will it help the cause - is the real question.
“INSPITE OF all the awareness and the change of the scenario, has anything changed as far as the dowry system goes? Then how can one expect to see changes with a mere game,” said Pravin Rukhiyar when questioned about the new online game Angry Brides and whether a change would come with it. While he is himself against it, he also mentions that there are people in India who do not mind taking gifts and how can anyone refuse dowry given in the form of gifts? On the same topic, another source, a girl, who wished to remain anonymous, said “I want dowry as this would secure my own future."
The Indian matrimony site Shaadi.com launched an online game, Angry Bride, in which brides protest against the age-old custom of dowry, and spread awareness among the urban society against the evils of this system. Payal Sinha, an avid
Facebook user, who played the game, was extremely happy with the concept. She said, “Although the game can be upgraded for sure and made more interesting but it is a very good attempt.”
Vineet Kumar Singh, who works with an NGO, and belongs to a clan, where taking and giving dowry is the norm of the institution of marriage said, “it is almost laughable the way they have projected the game, taking the concept from Angry birds but the effort is commendable and is an important way to drive the message through those people who are educated still they add to the evils of the system.”
In case this is the first time you have heard of the game, one can easily go to Facebook and go to the Shaadi.com page to see a woman like Durga armed with slippers and cooker and the likes in her 10 hands. One can play the game by hurling slippers at the targets or men, who are a doctor, pilot and an inspector, and have 'dowry amount' tagged on them. Vineet also pointed out an interesting thing and said that the game has been inspired by the various slipper hurling incidents in the political scenario.
Although people are viewing the entire game very positively but will it make at least a small dent in the whole concept - this is the million-dollar question.
