Anil Kumble on a sticky wicket
A gentlemen of the cricket world, Anil Kumble has found himself on a sticky pitch this time, which if not handled properly, may result in complicating the future of a girl child.
CONSIDERED A gentleman of the cricket world, Anil Kumble has found himself on a sticky wicket which if not handled properly may result in affecting the future of the girl child. In a judgment related to the custody of the daughter of Anil Kumble’s wife Chethna from her first marriage, the honorable Supreme Court of India on Monday (July 27) asked the wife of the former leg spinner to put her effort in resolving the issue with her former husband, Jahagirdhar, out of court. The apex court advised the two to discuss the issue and reach a compromise on shared custody of their daughter who is now 15 years old.

Hearing the petition, a bench of Justice Tarun Chatterjee and RM Lodha also gave certain instances in this regard and gave a timeframe of three weeks to find a solution by the time the petition will again come up for hearing. After divorcing Kumar Jahagirdar, Chethna married Anil Kumble in the year 2004 and since then, her daughter from her first marriage has been living with her.

Appearing for Chethna’s former husband, advocate Prashant Bhushan argued that when the apex court granted custody of the girl child to Chethna, she had no children from Anil Kumble and moreover during that period there was no female member in the family of Kumar Jahagirdhar to take care of the girl child. He further argued that his client’s is now in a position to look after the girl born from Chethna. With a gentleman like Anil Kumble involved in the case, let’s hope that both parties will be able to find an amicable solution to the problem in the interests of the child.
