Veteran social-activist Anna Hazare has turned down the offer of talks made by the government. Hazare has rejected offer for talks as this ploy would be used by the government to delay meaningful action on Lokpal Bill.
VETERAN SOCIAL activist Anna Hazare has been practical enough by turning down the ‘charming’ offer of talks with Group of Ministers on his persistent demand to have a stringent Lokpal Bill like the one drafted by known legal luminaries and jurists including Prashant Bushan and Santosh Hegde and others.
It is an unholy system in our democracy controlled by corrupt breed of politicians that real reforms are deferred in name of discussions. Instead of gaining time in the name of discussions, the union government should take the bill drafted by Santosh Hegde and others and study the same in detail, leaving aside the toothless bill drafted by its bureaucrats.
Any change in the bill drafted by civil society can then be discussed with civil-society. This is the exact procedure that was adopted before introducing RTI Act which has become the most popular and effective post-independence Act and even acts as a role-model for other countries to follow. The time has now come that the government and Indian politicians understand the need to end corruption in all walks of life as people are fed up of this evil. Due to the wide spread corruption most development schemes, health programmes and even crucial infrastructure projects are not completed on time as well as according to the stipulated standards and consequently fail to deliver.
