IS INDIA really a true democracy or just democracy on paper? This question needs a sincere and genuine answer. Does democracy only mean exercising franchise once in five years and be a mute spectator to the deeds of politicians, whether they are against the law of the land. Don’t we have the right to raise our voice or express dissent against certain acts of the legislators, which flouts law of the land?
The treatment meted out to leading social activist and crusader against corruption, Anna Hazare smacks of foul play. Government will definitely bear hard repercussions in the days to come.
Here are some of the recent scams that shocked our beautiful India and the politicians showed their true chameleon colour. The 2010 CWG scam of 70 thousand crore in which Suresh Kalmadi acted as the king pin. Then there came the 2G scam wherein act of former telecom minister, A. Raja, resulted in the loss to the tune of 1 lakh 70 thousand crores to the exchequer. The filth also brought names from the DMK family as alleged perpetrators of the huge embarrassing scam. DMK patriarch, Karunanidhi’s daughter, Kanimozhi and close relative, Dayanidhi Maran’s hidden pseudo face also came to the forefront. Maran has resigned from cabinet as he was allegedly involved in the scam, abuse of power. Adarsh scam in business capital of the country saw two former chief ministers, Vilas Rao Deshmukh and Sushil Kumar Shinde allegedly playing part in the scam. CM, Ashok Chavan had to leave the chair as his name also came under the scanner. Former Jharkhand CM, Madhu Koda, amassed wealth plundering government coffers to the tune of Rs 4000 crores.
These instances are just a tip of the iceberg, the corruption demon has reached in every nook and corner of the country and its high time, lets support Anna’s crusade against social menace.
On the very next day of Independence Day, August 16, the saint from Maharashtra was arrested and sent to seven day's judicial custody to Tihar jail. Anna was about to leave for the venue, JP Park, where peaceful protest was scheduled. The news of Anna’s arrest spread like wild fire across the country. People from different walks of life came forward in support of Anna.
Peaceful rallies are being organized in many cities. Mumbai, Kolkata, Banaras, Jaipur, Gowahati, Bangalore, and Hyderabad all are witnessing huge rallies in support of Anna’s movement against corruption.
Government has come under heavy criticism for the way in which the whole issue of Anna was handled. Seeing its image getting tarnished, government backed battery of so-called intellectuals pitched in to salvage the sinking ship. Kapil Sibal, Chidambaram, Pavan Kumar Bansal, Ashwani Kumar came out to validate government’s move to arrest Anna, all of them came up with bizarre explanations, excuses, statements. PM Manmohan Singh’s comment in parliament further deteriorated the situation, which was already out of hand, in his speech in the floor of the house; PM criticized Anna for launching protest: “The path he has chosen to impose his draft of a bill upon Parliament is totally misconceived and fraught with grave consequences for our democracy.” These worthless explanations only worked as sparks and added fuel to the fire.
Students, executives, traders, doctors, engineers, sportspersons, home makers, N.G.Os and host of others came out openly to support the movement. India Gate, Tihar jail, and some other places in the national capital are flooded with thousands of people with banners, posters.
How long some politicos keep on fooling us? It's high time, let's join Anna’s movement against corruption and wipe out corrupt, cheats, sinners leaders, bureaucrats from this beautiful country.
