INDIAN PUGILIST Vijender Singh has once brought laurels for the cricket crazy country, at a time when men in blue are on the edge of embarrassing exit from their quest for Champions Trophy which is being played in South Africa. According to the latest ranking chart released by AIBA (International Boxing Association), Vijender Singh has emerged as the world number one boxer in the seventy five weight category.
By topping the middle weight category, Vijender Singh became the first boxer from India ever in the history of boxing to become world number one in any weight category. Trained in Bhiwani Boxing Club (BBC), Vijender has been regularly hogging the limelight since his triumph last year in the Beijing Olympic where he went on to win India’s first ever medal in boxing discipline. This year in the month of August, he again kept Indian tri-colour waving in the World Boxing Championship in Milan, when he won the bronze medal at the World Boxing Championship.
Vijender is above many top notch names from the world of boxing including world champion Abbos Atoev of Uzbekistan and Olympic silver medalist Emilio Correa Bayeux of Cuba in ranking list.
