Apollo Hospitals Group hosting two conferences in Hyderabad
Apollo Hospitals Group is hosting two prestigious International Conferences at Hyderabad on Patient Safety & Healthcare IT from April 21-23 2011 at HICC, Hyderabad.
APOLLO HOSPITALS Group will host two prestigious International Conferences at Hyderabad. Sangita Reddy, MD, Apollo Hospitals Group and Dr K. Ganapathy, President, Apollo Telemedicine Networking Foundation & President Telemedicine Society of India, announced at a Press Conference about the hosting of the International Patient Safety Congress on 21 April and 22 April, 2011 and the 2nd International Conference on Transforming Healthcare with IT 2011 on 22 April and 23 April, 2011, at HICC, Hyderabad.

Patient Safety is a new healthcare discipline that emphasises the reporting, analysis, and prevention of medical errors that often lead to adverse healthcare events. The frequency and magnitude of avoidable adverse patient events was not well known until the 1990s, when multiple countries reported staggering numbers of patients harmed and killed by medical errors. Recognising that healthcare errors impact 1 in every 10 patients around the world, the World Health Organization calls for patient safety an endemic concern.

Speaking at the conference Preetha Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Group said, “Patient Safety helps in defining quality health care. Keeping our patients safe is a challenging issue because errors and mistakes can and do happen. Error occurs when a planned sequence of mental and physical activities fails to achieve the intended outcome and when this failure cannot be attributed to some chance intervention or occurrence.”

Meeting these goals helps healthcare facilities to ensure that a safe healthcare environment is provided for the patient. Accreditation is the most important initiative one can take up to improve patient safety standards in their organisation as well as their country/ region.

Emphasising on the need of Patient Safety, Dr Giridhar Gyani, CEO, NABH said, “We need to focus on 4 essentials of patient safety at all times- Medication Safety, Infection Control, Surgical Site Safety and Patient Falls.” He further added, “Patient- and family-centered care is an approach to health care that recognizes the role of the family in providing medical care; encourages collaboration between the patient, family, and health care professionals; and honors individual and family strengths, cultures, traditions, and expertise.”

The realm of patient care is evolving every day. Adding to this; Sangita Reddy said, “The realm of patient care is evolving every day and Healthcare IT has become a critical driver of this change. It represents an opportunity to not only improve quality and reduce cost but also enhance access, speed and scale.” He further added, “This conference will help us bring along a wealth of knowledge from across the world onto a single platform”.

The best minds of the world are speaking at the congress like Ann Jacobson (JCI), Diane P (NPSF), Bob Kocher (McKinsey), Dr Giridhar Gyani (NABH) and many more.
By using a proper framework and by inculcating checklist culture, Apollo has seen positive results and we are seeking to share these results with the entire healthcare fraternity.

The need to propound and transchange healthcare from an art and science into pure logical science will make it possible to shift a significant percentage of care into a technology driven, iterated, step-wise, logical decision tree. This is one of the powers of future healthcare. The question is how do we navigate there? How do the rural poor in India get connected to the new world of technology enabled healthcare? How will technology drive down healthcare costs in the long run?
