Apollo Hospitals Group to organize conclave to mark International Nurses Day
The conclave will have discussions involving education and quality and improvement of communication..

ON MAY 12 every year the International Nurses Day is celebrated. The day is also the birth anniversary of legendary nurse Florence Nightingale – who is considered an inspiration for contemporary nursing - and symbolized the ethos of nursing. At a time when there are several issues and challenges facing the nursing profession in terms of quality standards, pay, and working conditions, the Apollo Group of Hospitals hopes to recognize the role they play in everyday healthcare through a conclave that will be followed by a two-day leadership summit in Bangalore.

The chief guest of the conclave themed ‘Caring with Confidence – Building People’ will be Dr E. V. Ramana Reddy, Secretary – Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka, and the keynote address will be given by Ms Sangita Reddy, Executive Director, Apollo Hospitals Group.

Usha Banerjee, Group Director – Nursing, Apollo Hospitals Group in a press statement said: “For generations, nurses have played a key role in providing health services to millions of patients the world over. Since a nurse’s role is critical care for extremely ill patients who need constant monitoring, empathy for the suffering of others is indispensable. The theme of this conclave focuses on the basic concept of care, but with a strong emphasis on administering it with confidence. This will help in improving patient safety and clinical outcomes. A sound nursing education is therefore vital for such a challenging task. Health providers also need to take care of themselves to be able to provide the same to others.”

The first coporate hospital in India was conceptialized in 1983 by Dr. Pratap C Reddy in Chennai. Since then not only Apollo group hospitals but many other private hospital chains, include those with foreign collaboration, have grown across the country - making available advanced healthcare but also attracting large amount of patients from across the world to receive quality and cost-effective medical treatment.
