Apple celebrates World Emoji Day by unveiling some new emoji including that of 'woman in hijab'
Apple Inc, the noted American multinational technology company, celebrated the World Emoji Day by introducing new emoji with beard and headscarves, as well as many more new faces this time.

On the occasion of World Emoji Day celebrated on July 17, Apple unveiled some finalised versions the new emoji to be introduced in the next version of iOS 11 phones. A new emoji has been dedicated to the cause of breastfeeding. Even emoji showing sandwich, coconut and mythical animals have been created. Also, some more smileys will appear on smart phones for use to express feelings, reactions and emotions.

Emoji – supported on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, and Linux – are popularly shared on Twitter, Facebook, Slack, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, etc to express reactions and emotions.

Emoji are ideograms and smileys used in electronic messages and web pages which work as emoticons which were first used on Japanese mobile phones in the late 1990s.

However, emoji have become increasingly popular worldwide since their international inclusion in Apple's iPhone, which was followed by similar adoption by Android and other mobile operating systems.

Some studies have also been done on the users of emoji and the first international 'Emojicon'conference was held last year in San Francisco, California.

Some studies have shown that even students with autism spectrum disorder or other learning-pace difficulties for abstract symbols, respond well to emoji and other visual supports. I had reported last year in merinews with an advice to teachers and educators to select and adapt relevant emoji for communication in the classroom.
