AMERICAN BUSINESSMAN Jerry York, the Chairman, President and CEO of Harwinton Capital died on Thursday at the age of 71. He was the former CFO of IBM and Chrysler, Micro Warehouse, General Motors board of directors and the board of directors of Apple Computer.


Jerry York died of a cerebral hemorrhage, on March 18, 2010. He was hospitalized on Wednesday near his home in Detroit after collapsing. York’s death was announced by Apple, where he served as a director since 1997 for 13 years. Apple.com's front page Thursday was given over to a tribute to York's "extraordinary character, business expertise and leadership. He was elected to the GM board of directors in early 2006. Before that, he was CFO of IBM and of Chrysler and was vice chairman of Tracinda, a private investment company owned by Kirk Kerkorian.

Jerry York was born on June 22, 1938, in Memphis. He graduated from the United States Military Academy and earned a master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Eilene M. York, and four children.
