Appoint commissioners by rotation for EC
The post of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) should be given on a rotation basis yearly, to all the Election Commissioners. This would eliminate any aspect of senior and junior amongst them, apart from providing a streamlined, non biased system.

THE CENTRAL Information Commission (CIC ) gave its verdict against the president secretariat, allowing the latter to provide copy of a letter by the then Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswamy, to the President of India. The letter had recommending the removal of the then Election Commissioner Navin Chawla.

Though the CIC verdict is with a rider, which has invited the comments of Navin Chawla first, before the release of the said letter, it shows that Information commission's system has been working effectively in India, with till date no controversies regarding political rulers applying pressure on the body.

The Election Commissioners, on the other hand, has not been so successful avoiding such controversies. Chawla and many before him, have often been accused of working in tune with the political rulers who had appointed them.

There is only one way such controversies can be ebbed down. This could happen by selecting the Election Commissioners by a consensus amongst the Prime minister and the leader of the opposition.

The post of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) should be given on a rotation basis, for one year each, to all the Election Commissioners. This would eliminate any aspect of senior and junior amongst them, apart from providing a streamlined, non biased system.
