Appropriate ambience and risk taking promote entrepreneurship, says President Pranab Mukherjee
A day before the launch of "Start-Up India" initiative, the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee said that there was need to create appropriate ambience to promote entrepreneurship and risk-taking ability to achieve the intended benefits.

Addressing leading Silicon Valley CEOs, entrepreneurs, technologists and venture capitalists at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 15, Mukherjee added that mere political freedom, if not backed by economic freedom, would not solve the problems of the country's vast multitude of people.

Referring to India's GDP being only 2.6 percent of the world GDP, Mukherjee suggested that we needed to catch up with optimal performance and eliminate poverty by achieving high growth level of a minimum of 10 percent and sustain it over a period of more than 10 years, said a government release.

He was of the view that technology and entrepreneurship would drive country's production to optimum levels by converting the young minds from being job seekers to job creators and existing talent and resources were to be utilized optimally. It was stated that India was on the cusp of a Start-up revolution and felt that entrepreneurial energy is the kind of energy required for economic progress and that it was crucial for India to adopt innovation.
